I participated in the photographic workshop, which had
no special theme. So I chose my own theme, which was to follow my grandfather
on his daily ritual and take documentary photos.
His passion and daily habit is collecting things, which others find useless
and that is the reason why they have thrown them away and they consider
that these things no longer have any value (material, sentimental or memorial)
, but my grandfather thinks that these things still have a meaning and
he finds them a reason for their existence.
My grandfather has as an ex-tradesman developed a habit as a consequence
of his profession and the “fighting” on the everyday market
in the times after the Second World War and in his senior years this shows
up a as deviation, or digression, of normal behaviour.
In our family this not normal “behaviour”
of my grandfather's has become a kind of taboo, so we never discuss it
, but rather look away. In this way I decided to document one of his trips
and position in his world.
My grandfathers goes on his ritual trips on his bicycle and despite his
age he is still very quick on his bike and I needed four days to catch
him before he drove off in some unknown direction. That day he found two
old mattresses in our neigbourhood and some other small things and when
he came home he installed them into his system which is known only to
him.
